Guerilla Girls: Public Service Messages

Guerilla Girls

Why do Women have to be Naked?

In 1985, a group of women artists and art professionals put on masks and assumed pseudonyms of famous women artists from the past in order to become anonymous in order to bring attention to women artists and to expose the domination of white males in the art establishment. They made their point via sarcastically humorous posters and billboards as well as staged demonstrations at art openings. Although the Guerrilla Girls themselves remain anonymous their posters are instantly recognizable.
